BACKGROUND:
Internews® Network is an international media development organization based in Arcata, CA and Washington, D.C. whose mission is to empower people worldwide with the news and information they need, the ability to connect, and the means to make their voices heard.
GENERAL FUNCTION:
Internews is seeking a Resident Advisor to be based in Abeche, Chad. The objective of the project is to create a stream of radio programs on relevant human rights issues and peace processes that will be directed at displaced Darfuris.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
•Responsible for developing and producing a stream of new, high quality radio program material covering key themes but not limited to human rights, peace process, elections, rule of law, GBV and health.
•Train reporters in principles and practice of basic journalism including roles, responsibilities and ethical orientations to handling sources and sensitive topics.
•Train and mentor Sudanese refugee reporters to research, write, interview, record, edit and produce packaged radio programming.
•Responsible for producing, re-dubbing and re-versioning programming into relevant local languages for Darfuri refugee population.
•Responsible for researching new programming ideas.
•Prepare and assemble materials for monthly and quarterly reports, in compliance with donor guidelines.
•Strategize with Country Director on new directions for project.
•Maintain relationships with donors through reporting, liaison, communications, and advocacy, and maintains an accurate list of donor correspondence.
QUALIFICATIONS:
•French language skills required
•Prior experience administering U.S. government funded grants: experience and expertise in similar projects (journalism training, media development).
•Experience managing projects in challenging environments including conflict zones, specifically, experience living and working in African conflict zones.
•Extensive radio news broadcasting and production experience
•Ability to handle multi-faceted programs
•Ability to adjust to shifting political circumstances and create programming accordingly.
•Sensitivity to cross-cultural dynamics in the work place.
•Relevant university degree.
