Job Description

Hydro-Mechanical Engineer

Location: Afghanistan – Gereshk (Helmand Province)

Input: about 1 year

Project description:
(i) Rehabilitation and upgrading of a hydropower plant with 4.8 MW installation capacity, and
(ii) Construction and replacement of 30 km of 3.3 kV transmission and distribution network with 20 kV line and installation of new end-user meters.

Qualifications & Skills
A University degree in Mechanical Engineering.
At least 7 years of experience as a Hydro-Mechanical Engineer in site works for the energy sector and large infrastructure projects, including hydropower plants and transmission and distribution networks.
Experience in Design review and site supervision.
Excellent English language skills.
Experience in developing countries is desirable.
Computer literate in Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities
Review the existing design work on the hydro-mechanical equipment completed to date.
Monitor tests on completion, pre-commissioning and commissioning procedures; provide commissioning assistance; and monitor rectification of detail and outstanding works for issue of taking-over certificate.
Assist in training of the Afghanistan Electricity Company’s staff through on-the-job training and classroom training programs, covering the installation techniques and associated maintenance and repair procedures, and prepare installation and operation and maintenance manual for the Afghanistan Electricity Company.
Help ensure that the hydro-mechanical works design, load control systems, turbine performance and technology used are appropriate for the specific hydropower application to ensure maximum production efficiency.

The general terms of employment as follows:
Basic salary in US$ per month negotiable.
Mobilization - Demobilization economy class airfare tickets to Place of origin
30 calendar days paid leave per year
2 air fares to home destination per year
Accommodation on the Project Site in a camp facility operated and secured by the Project Contractor for use by the Company personnel.
Shared local Transportation as arranged by the Project Contractor for use by the Company personnel.
