IDEC (Brazilian Institute for Consumer Protection) is a non-profit consumer association, independent of companies, parties, or governments.
Founded in 1987 by a group of volunteers, their mission is to guide, raise awareness, defend ethics in the consumer relationship, and, above all, fight for the rights of consumers-citizens like you.
They are a prestigious organization inside and outside Brazil. They have accumulated important struggles and achievements that were only possible due to the help of their associates and partners, who contribute to the autonomy of their work.
What they do
In the fight for fairer consumer relations, they have no hesitation in rolling up their sleeves.
They inform
In one of the most complete consumer protection portals, they publish news and other information to prevent and help you solve consumption problems. In this regard, members have exclusive content.
Orientate
They instruct and advise on the rights provided for in the Consumer Protection Code and in specific rules for each sector. Members can answer their questions about consumption by letter, phone, email, in person, or even through Idec Orienta.
Evaluate and Research
Their studies are conducted by specialized technicians who evaluate important products and services for the consumer. To ensure their credibility and impartiality, they do not allow companies to advertise with the results disclosed and they do not accept gifts or donations from companies.
They are the voice of the consumer
They are part of several committees, commissions, or technical chambers to represent the interests of consumers. When the dialogue doesn't work, they go to court with public civil actions to defend the right of everyone, regardless of link with them. Therefore, they do not promote processes that are of individual interest only.
They edited the Idec Magazine
A pioneer in consumer rights, the magazine is distributed bimonthly to its associates and subscribers. As with their other communication channels, they do not carry any type of advertising, be it company or government. In addition to this publication, they edit books and booklets that gather more in-depth or complementary information about your rights, safety, and health.
