About 20 years ago, Sanofi established a Patient Assistance Foundation which supported the Sanofi Patient Assistance Program. In November 2011, the Foundation was re-named the Sanofi Foundation for North America. At the Foundation, we strive to reduce healthcare inequalities in the U.S. through strategic charitable donations and by establishing partnerships with non-government organizations that have broad expertise in our long-term priorities. The Foundation consists of two parts:
- Providing free prescription drugs to patients who do not have insurance coverage and who meet program eligibility requirements. Product is donated to the Foundation by the company for this purpose. It is administered through our integrated patient support program called the Sanofi Patient Connection™.
- The scope of the Foundation has broadened to include a financial donation component which is used to support and partner with 501(c)(3) organizations that are strategically aligned with our mission.
Programs
Sanofi Patient Connection
The Sanofi Foundation for North America makes it possible to provide free prescription drugs to patients who do not have insurance coverage and who meet program eligibility requirements. Product is donated to the Foundation by the company for this purpose. This is managed through the patient assistance component of the Sanofi Patient Connection.
Donations and Partnerships
Charitable Donations to Partnerships: The Foundation has a small cash component used for charitable community donations. During 2012, we are accepting applications for charitable donations "by invitation only." Our goal is to contact non-profits directly throughout the year to apply for donations.
Future Program Areas
In 2012 we have focused partnerships within family & pediatric health. In the future, we plan to partner and support organizations that have expertise in the following categories:
Health — programs which aim to improve the public's health, increase access to healthcare, focus on prevention, and/or general disease awareness.
Human Service — programs which strengthen families and/or improve opportunities for self-sufficiency within communities. Support for basic human service needs would also fall within this category
Education — programs that increase access to, or the outcome of, the education of our youth. Examples include support for K-12 and higher educational institutions, literacy organizations, scholarship programs; programs to increase interest in and aptitude for science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM); and programs which improve teacher skills.
Environment — programs that contribute to environmental sustainability. Specific areas of interest include: environmental protection of water and or energy conservation; Air quality or Climate Change; Bio-Diversity; Recycling Programs; or Education/Awareness about these topics.
Civic & Community — contribute toward community development and strengthening the community, its residents, or the business environment in some significant and measurable way. (Examples: Fire/Police departments, housing and urban renewal, neighborhood or community based groups, regional clubs.)
